(More customer reviews)A couple of problems were immediately apparent with the Nyrius Travel Translator:
1) On all the translated languages, I had difficulty making out the pronunciation of a lot of the words because the built-in speaker sounds a little muffled. Although the phrase/sentence is displayed on the LCD screen, it won't help very much unless you're familiar with the phonetics.
2) Even if you know the phonetics, it's hard to read a phrase/sentence on the LCD screen. The screen is wide enough to display only 13 characters, so it can only display three or four words at a time. You have to press the right arrow button once to make it scroll through the entire sentence/phrase. And even then, the scrolling is painfully slow. This makes finding a translation a rather time-consuming and tedious process.
Unless you can find a better translator with a high quality speaker and a bigger screen, you're better off simply using a travel phrase book for German, French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese from the very favorably rated Eyewitness Travel Guide Phrase Book series.
